Health in Action (HIA) is a multi-faceted approach to enhancing neighborhood agency and capacity to shape community health outcomes that can be applied across all sectors. First launched in East Harlem by the Bureau of Harlem Neighborhood Health (a part of the NYC Department of Health and Mental Health), Health in Action uses the power of participatory grant-making to identify community-led priorities and supports community-based change.
Prioritizing local community expertise and knowledge to support a community-based
decision-making process,
Supporting community-based organizations working towards community outcomes, and
Reaching community-level organizations that have historically faced barriers accessing grant funding.
